WhataretheAutoCADfunctionkeys?   Welltheyarethe12keysatthetopofyourkeyboardmarkedF1toF12:                             SelectinganyoneofthesekeysisashortcuttoaparticularAutoCADcommand,andthesehavebeenaroundfromtheearlyDOSversionsofAutoCADrightuptothelatestversionofACAD2015runninginwindows8.   Soinalittlemoredetail:   F1 –OpenstheAutoCADHelpwindowinslowmotion…itcanbeanuisancethough,asitisrightnexttotheEscapekeythatisonhandtogetoutofa‘sticky’commandsuchastheLinetool,andisalltooeasilyhit.IhaveseenaradicalsolutiononanACADforumsuggestingpoppingthekeyoutofthekeyboardtoavoidhittingitbymistake. F2 –OpenstheAutoCADtextwindow,whichshowsanextendedviewoftheCommandLineentries. ThisisusefulwhentheCommandLineistoosmalltoseewhatyouareinterestedin. F3 –TogglestheOsnaptoolonandoff. Thisisasuper-usefulkey. Snapoftensnapstoanobjectthatyoudidnotintendto,whichisarealatime-wasterthatcanreallyaddupifithappensrepeatedly. Usethiskeytospecificallyturnitonwhenneededandoffwhenitmightcausemiss-snaps. F4 –Toggles3DOsnaponandoffandisaffectedinthesamewayasF3. F5 –TogglesIsoplanebetweenTop/Right/Left. Fordrawing,whatsomecall,“fake-3D”isometricdrawings. TogetintotheIsometricdrawingmode,hoverthemouseovertheSnapModebuttonatthebottomleftofthescreen,right-click,andchooseSettings. Then,underSnaptype,chooseIsometricSnap. NowusetheF5keytotogglebetweenthethreesidesoftheobjectyouaredrawing:top,right,andleft. F6 –TurnsDynamicUCSonandoffwhichservesyouwellin3Dmodellingwork. F7 –TogglesGridDisplayonandoff. Thiskey,incombinationwiththeF9key,helpsyoutoorganisetextobjectsonaregulargrid. F8 –TogglesOrthomodeonandoff. Possiblyoneofthemostusefulkeysofall. F9 –TogglesGridSnap(snaptogrid)onandoff. SeethecommentsonF7above.
