Abstract Objective:Toassesstherelativefrequencyofoccurrenceofmotor,perceptual,peripersonal,andpersonalneglectsubtypes,theassociationofneglectandotherrelateddeficits(e.g.,deficientnonlateralizedattention,anosognosia),andtheneuroanatomicsubstratesofneglectinpatientswithrighthemispherestrokeinrehabilitationsettings. Methods:Theauthorsassessed166rehabilitationinpatientsandoutpatientswithrighthemispherestrokewithmeasuresofneglectandneglectsubtypes,attention,motorandsensoryfunction,functionaldisability,andfamilyburden.Detailedlesionanalyseswerealsoperformed. Results:Neglectwaspresentin48%ofrighthemispherestrokepatients.Patientswithneglecthadmoremotorimpairment,sensorydysfunction,visualextinction,basic(nonlateralized)attentiondeficit,andanosognosiathandidpatientswithoutneglect.Personalneglectoccurredin1%andperipersonalneglectin27%,motorneglectin17%,andperceptualneglectin21%.NeglectseveritypredictedscoresontheFunctionalIndependenceMeasureandFamilyBurdenQuestionnairemoreaccuratelythandidnumberoflesionedregions. Conclusions:Theneglectsyndromeperse,ratherthanoverallstrokeseverity,predictspooroutcomeinrighthemispherestroke.Dissociationsbetweentasksassessingneglectsubtypessupporttheexistenceofthesesubtypes.Finally,neglectresultsfromlesionsatvariouslociwithinadistributedsystemmediatingseveralaspectsofattentionandspatiomotorperformance.
