SelectingObjects

IndividualSelection
Hoverthecursoroveranindividualobjectandleft-clicktoselectit.Clickingadditionalobjectswilladdthemtothecurrentselectionset.
SelectionWindows
SelectionWindowsarerectangularareasspecifiedinthedrawingareawithtwoclickstodeterminetheoppositecornersofthewindow.Thedirectioninwhichthewindowisdrawndetermineswhichselectionmethodisused.
LefttoRight-WindowSelection
AWindowSelectionhasasolidborderandtranslucentbluefill.Itselectsallobjectsthatarefullyencompassedwithinthewindow.Thetwocornersofthewindowmustbespecifiedfromlefttoright.
RighttoLeft-CrossingSelection
ACrossingSelectionhasadashedborderandtranslucentgreenfill.Itselectsallobjectsthatareintersectedbythewindoworcontainedwithinit.Thetwocornersofthewindowmustbespecifiedfromrighttoleft.
Fence
AtanypointwhenAutoCADpromptsforobjectstobeselected,type“F”andpress[Enter]toinvoketheFenceselectionmethod.TheFenceisacrossinglinethatwillselectallobjectsthatitintersects.
Note:Toremoveobjectsfromthecurrentselectionset,hold[SHIFT]andselectthemagain.
Erase
TheerasetoolinAutoCADremovesobjectsfromthedrawing.
Toeraseanobject,fromtheRibbonHometab>Modifypanel,clicktheErasebutton.
Commandline:TostarttheErasetoolfromthecommandline,type“E”andpress[Enter].
Selecttheobjectsyouwishtoeraseandpress[Enter].
Move
Usethemovetooltorepositionobjectsinyourdrawing.
Tomoveanobject,fromtheRibbonHometab>Modifypanel,clicktheMovebutton.
Commandline:TostarttheMovetoolfromthecommandline,type“M”andpress[Enter].
Tomoveobjects,selectanyobjectsyouwishtomoveandpress[Enter].
Twopointsneedtobeclicked,themovefrompointorbasepointandthemovetopoint.Specifythebasepointandthesecondpointwillindicatehowfartheobjectsaretobemovedandinwhatdirection.
Whilemoving,theobjectswilldisplayintheiroriginallocationandalsoattachedtothecursor.Oncompletionofthemove,theoriginalswilldisappearleavingonlythemovedobjects.
Copy
Thecopytoolworksinmuchthesamewayasthemovetoolbutcreatesduplicatesoftheobjects.
Tocopyanobject,fromtheRibbonHometab>Modifypanel,clicktheCopybutton.
Commandline:TostarttheCopytoolfromthecommandline,type“CO”andpress[Enter].
Selecttheobjectsyouwishtocopyandpress[Enter]toaccepttheselection.
Clickthebasepointasthepointtocopyfrom.
Thenspecifythesecondpointasthepointtomoveto.
Thecommandremainsactivewiththecurrentselectionsothatmultiplecopiescanbecreatedusingthesamebasepoint.
Rotate
TherotatetoolinAutoCADrotatesaroundaspecifiedbasepoint.
Torotateanobject,fromtheRibbonHometab>Modifypanel,clicktheRotatebutton.
Commandline:TostarttheRotatetoolfromthecommandline,type“RO”andpress[Enter].
Selecttheobjectsyouwishtorotateandpress[Enter]toaccepttheselection.Specifythebasepointaroundwhichyouwanttorotatethem.
Typeanangletorotatetheobjectsbyorusethecursortoindicateanangle.
Note:Theangleisalwaysmeasuredanti-clockwisefromtheEastdirection.

Grips
MostshapescreatedinAutoCADcanbemodifiedusinggrippoints.Selectashapetoshowtheavailablegrips.Clickthegripyouwishtoedit.ThegripchangesfromBluetoRedtoindicatethatitis“hot”andattachestoyourcursor.
Thehotgripisthepresumedbasepointofanymodificationsunlessanewbasepointisspecified.
Usingrightclick,youcanaccessadditionalitemssuchasrelocatingtheBasePoint.Thisallowsyoutomodifythegrippointsfromanunrelatedornon-grippointonthescreen.
OnceyouhaveselectedBasePoint,clickapointonthescreensuchassnappingtoanotherobject.
YourGrippointwillstarttostretchoutfromthenewbasepoint,clickasecondpointtoidentifythepointtostretchto.
Hold[Shift]whilstmanipulatingagriptorestrictmovementtothehorizontalandverticalaxis.
Toeditmorethanonegripatatime,holddownshiftasyouselectmultiplegrips.Whenyouhaveselectedalltherequiredgrips,releaseshiftandselectoneofthegripsagainasthebasepoint.Thiswillnowallowyoutomodifythegeometryusingalltheselectedgripsandmaintainingtheirrelationship.
UsingGripstoAddandRemoveVertices
Withagripselected,press[Ctrl]tocyclebetweenAddVertex,RemoveVertexandthedefaultStretchmodes.
AddVertexwillcreateanadditionalvertexpointaftertheselectedgrip.Press[Ctrl]untilyouseetheplussignonthecursor.Specifythepointonscreenwhereyouwishtoaddavertex.
Note: Avertexmustbeaddedaftertheselectedgrip.ThedirectioninwhichthePolylinewascreateddetermineswhichinitialgripneedstobeselected.IntheexamplebelowthePolylinewascreatedinaclockwisedirection.
RemoveVertexwilldeletetheselectedvertexpoint.Press[Ctrl]untilyouseetheminussignonthecursor.Pickonthescreentodeletethevertex.
UsingBasicModifyToolswithGrips
Withagripselected,right-clicktoaccessanumberofthemodifytoolssuchasMove,Rotate,Scale,MirrorandCopy.
Youcanalsopress[Space]tocyclebetweenMove,Rotate,Scale,Mirror,andthedefaultStretchmodes.
MoveinvokestheMovecommand,usingthehotgripasthedefaultbasepoint.Pickapointonscreentomovetheobjecttoorspecifyadistanceatthecursorprompt.
RotateinvokestheRotatecommandusingthehotgripasthedefaultbasepoint.Pickapointonscreentorotatetheobjectorspecifyarotationangleatthecursorprompt.
ScaleinvokestheScalecommandusingthehotgripasthedefaultbasepoint.Specifythescalefactoratthecursorprompt.
MirrorinvokestheMirrorcommandusingthehotgripasthefirstpointofthemirrorline.Specifyapointtodeterminethemirrorline.
UseGripstoLengthenaline
HoveroverthegripofaLineobjecttorevealashortcutmenuwiththedefaultStretchoptionandanadditionalLengthenoption.TheLenghtentoolworksverysimilarlytostretchbutitlocksthelinetoitscurrentaxis.

QuickSelect
Quickselectisusedtoselectobjectsbasedontheirproperties.YoumaywanttoamendthepropertiesofallPolylinesinadrawingonaparticularlayer.Insteadofselectingeachentityseparately,usetheQuickSelectfeature.
FromtheRibbonHometab>Utilitiespanel,clicktheQuickSelectbutton.
Commandline:TostarttheQuickSelecttoolfromthecommandline,type“QSELECT”andpress[Enter].
TheQuickSelectdialogboxwillshow.
ApplytoChoosestoapplytheQuickSelecttoeithertheEntiredrawingorCurrentselection.Ifyouhaven’tselectedanyobjects,clickthebuttontotherightoftheApplytodrop-down,thedialogwillhide,selectyourobjectsandhitreturntoshowtheQuickSelectdialogbox.
ObjecttypeselectsthetypeofobjectyouwishtofindorsettoMultipletoincludealltypesofobject.Onlyelementsinyourcurrentdrawingwillbeavailable.
