Interiortrim,controls,andinstrumentationwereborrowedfromtheChryslerKplatform,andwiththelowerfloormadepossiblebythefront-wheel-driveplatform,theCaravanfeaturedcar-likeeaseofentry.Threetrimlevelswereavailable:base,SE,andLE.TheCaravan,alongwiththePlymouthVoyager,areconsideredtobethefirstmass-producedvehiclestohavededicatedbuilt-incupholders.[10][11] Basevanscameequippedforfivepassengersintworowsofseating.TheLEcamewithsevenpassengersstandardinthreerowsofseating.Thebasevanhadtwobucketseatswithattachedarmrestsandopenfloorspacebetweentheminthefront,athree-personbenchseatinthesecondrow.Theseven-passengercamewithtwobucketseatswithattachedarmrestsandopenfloorspacebetweentheminthefront,atwo-personbenchseatinthesecondrow,andathree-personbenchseatinthebackrow.Thetwobenchseatsintherearwereindependentlyremovable,andthelargethree-personbenchcouldalsobeinstalledinthesecond-rowlocationviaasecondsetofattachmentpointsonthevan'sfloor,ordinarilyhiddenwithsnap-inplasticcovers.Thisconfigurationallowedforconventionalfive-personseatingwithasizablecargoareaintherear.Thelatchingmechanismsforthebencheswereeasytooperatealthoughremovingandreplacingtheseatstypicallyrequiredtwoadults.Afrontlow-back60/40split-bench,accommodatingathirdfrontpassengerinthemiddle,wasofferedintheSEtrimlevelin1985only,allowingforamaximumofeightpassengers.Thisconfigurationwassubsequentlydropped.Basemodelcurbweight2,910 lbs. Safetyfeaturesconsistedof3-pointseatbeltsforthefronttwopassengers,withsimplelapbeltsfortherearfive.Seatsonbasemodelsandcloth-trimmedSEshadnoheadrests,whichwerenotmandatedduetothevan's"lighttruck"legalstatus.However,thetwofrontseatswereequippedwithnon-adjustableheadrestsontheLEmodelandinconjunctionwithvinylupholsteryontheSE.Side-impactreinforcementsweremandatedandwereatallseatingpositionsfrontandrear.Neitherairbagsnoranti-lockbrakingsystemswereavailable. Accesstotherearrowsofseatingwasbyalargepassenger-sideslidingdoorenablingeasyaccessinconfinedsituations,e.g.,parking.Becauseonlyoneslidingdoorwasoffered,thesmallersecond-rowbenchseatwasshiftedtothedriver'ssideofthevan,facilitatingpassengeraccesstothe3rd-rowseat.Tofacilitatevariablecargostoragebehindtherearseat,theseatcouldbeadjustedforwardintwoincrements,thefirstofwhichremovedroughly6inches(150 mm)oflegroomfromthebackrowpassengers,andthesecondofwhichwouldpushthebenchallthewaytothebackofthesecondrow,makingtheseatsunusable.Theseatbackoftherearbenchcouldalsobefoldedforward,providingaflatcargoshelf.Thesmaller2nd-rowbenchwasnotadjustable,norfoldable;itcouldonlyberemovedentirely. Cargoaccesstotherearwasviaahatchback,similartotheoneontheKplatformstationwagons.Thehatchwashingedatthetopandheldopenbygasstruts. Along-wheelbasevariant,marketedastheGrandCaravan,wasintroducedinMay1987.Itallowedmorecargospacebehindtherearseat. AcargoversionoftheCaravan,calledtheMiniRamVan,wasalsointroducedfor1984,withaflat-flooredcargospacefourfeettallandwithfourfeetbetweenthewheelwells.Theloadcapacitywas1,700 lb(770 kg).[12]ItwasrenamedtheCaravanC/Vfor1989andwasthendiscontinuedafter1995.Itwasinitiallyavailablewithashortwheelbase;along-wheelbasevariantwasintroducedalongsidetheGrandCaravan.
